The Guilin Merryland Resort in Guangxi has attracted controversy, and a soaring rate of ticket sales, after offering half-price entry to women in mini-skirts shorter than 38cm. Female staff armed with rulers will be posted at the gates for the duration of the two month scheme, heroically ensuring that prudes wearing skirts of 39cm or longer pay the full admission price of 110rmb.

Coincidentally, the park also holds a water-splashing festival during the campaign where visitors can throw water over each other, including the miniskirted women. That attracted even more visitors, Deputy Manager Li Wenxing said, as he pumped up his Super Soaker 2000 and giggled with joy (we imagine).

Shanghai Daily reports that some local residents have criticised the scheme as vulgar, whilst others have have wondered how much of a discount they would receive for wearing even less, or nothing at all.

Zhuang Zhiming, a lawyer with Jiangsu Fazhize Law Firm, commented on the matter with a statement we’d class as ‘loose-fitting floral dress’ on the controversiality scale. “I don’t encourage this kind of activity, nor do I oppose it because it violates no laws or rules,” he announced, dealing a crushing blow to those claiming that China’s education system is unable to produce analytical minds capable of independent thought.
