Beidaihe is noted for its crab, cuttlefish and scallops. Try one of the innumerable small seafood places on Haining Lu, where you order by pointing to the tastiest looking thing scuttling or slithering around the bucket, or Kiesslings, on Dongjing Lu near the Diplomatic Missions Guesthouse. Originally Austrian, this restaurant has been serving the foreign community for most of this century, and still has a few Western dishes on its reasonably priced menu - Western diners are even issued with knives and forks. It's an ideal place for breakfast, offering good pastries and bread.
