Beidaihe train station is inconveniently
located 15km north of the town; bus #5 will take
you from here into the centre. If you arrive at
night (likely if you're coming from Beijing),
there will be private minibuses and taxis waiting,
but you'll have to barter hard to get a price of
less than ¥40. If you intend stopping at both
Beidaihe and Shanhaiguan, 35km to the east along
the coast, it might be better to go to Shanhaiguan
first (two stops farther down the line, but check,
as some trains don't stop there), where the
station is close to the hotels. Buses #3 and #4 (¥2),
and minibuses (¥4) run throughout the day until
around 6pm to Beidaihe from Shanhaiguan, passing
through the port of Qinhuangdao and terminating at
Beidaihe's bus station ; it's a
fifteen-minute downhill walk from here to Middle
Beach. Taxis around town cost ¥10, but Beidaihe
is small enough to get around easily on foot. CITS
is located in the Haibin Hotel and will
arrange onward train tickets and tours to the
nearby nature reserve.
