Airlines The main CAAC office is on Dao Bei Lu (8am-6pm; tel 3335301), 200m north of the station. You can also buy air tickets from the CITS office in the Peony Hotel and a CAAC office in the Luoyang Ying Binguan.

Banks and exchange The Bank of China is tucked slightly back from the street at 268 Yan'an Lu (Mon-Fri 8am-5pm, Sat 8am-noon).

Bike rental A woman outside the Luoyang Lushe, opposite the station, has a few bicycles for rent for ¥5 a day (8am-6pm). There's also a bicycle stand opposite the Peony Hotel (daily 8am-7pm; ¥6 per day).

Bookshops The Xinhua Bookshop, next door to the Xuangong Hotel on the western side of Zhongzhou Zhong Lu, has a few novels in English and a good selection of art books.

Buses Luoyang's long-distance bus station is next to the train station on the eastern side of Jinguyuan Lu. Tickets can be bought from the office (daily 8am-5pm) or on the bus itself. Minibuses to local tourist destinations leave from the concourse outside the train station, but be wary of unscrupulous private operators.

Post office The post office is tucked on the north side of Zhongzhou Zhong Lu, near the junction with Jinguyuan Lu (Mon-Sat 8am-6pm).

PSB 1 Kaixuan Xi Lu (Mon-Sat 8am-noon & 2-6pm), with gory pictures of traffic accidents displayed outside.

Shopping Locally made tricolour ceramics (copies of Tang sculptures) are on sale at the Arts and Crafts Building, at 90 Yan'an Lu. For domestic goods try the Department Store next to the Xuangong Hotel on Zhongzhou Zhong Lu.

Telephones There's a 24hr telecom building around the corner from the post office, on Jinguyuan Lu.

Travel agents The main CITS office (tel 4325061) is situated on Changjiang Lu opposite Xiyuan Park. Another more accessible office is in the Peony Hotel (daily 8am-6.30pm; tel 4913699). They can arrange day tours to sites in the area and will buy train tickets.
