Shenyang's most famous restaurant is the Laobian Eating House, at 6 Zhong Jie (tel 024/24843956 ext 621), whose noted jiaozi cost ¥50 for a jin (60 dumplings), though you can order a fraction of that and pay accordingly. The restaurant may be famous, but its decor and service are terrible. An alternative with excellent service and cheap food is Meiahli Korean BBQ, 62 Kunming Beijie (tel 024/3415547), near the Heping Hotel and Zhongshan Lu. They serve zaocha here, a sweet, fruity tea that goes well with platefuls of beef and bottles of beer. Dinner for two will be around ¥50. Next door is a USA Beef Noodle King, and farther down Zhongshan Lu, towards Mao's statue, are several jiaozi houses. Shenyang's most popular fish restaurant is Tianjin Yu Gang Er Bu inside the Liaoning Stadium Hotel, 284 Qingnian Lu (tel 024/23896188). Dinner for two will come to around ¥100. Of the many KFC s here, the closest one to the South station is 100m in front on Zhonghua Lu, with another one around the corner on Taiyuan Jie. McDonald's is on Zhong Jie, next door to yet another KFC.
