The train ride between Zhenjiang and Shanghai
takes about three hours; Nanjing is less than one
hour west. Zhenjiang's
train station , on
Zhongshan Lu, is in the southwest of the city.
From here, buses #2 and #4 run to Dashi Kou and
then head north, while buses #10 and #12 run to
Dashi Kou and turn south. Points of arrival by
bus
are harder to predict: some buses stop very close
to the train station, others at the bus station on
Jiefang Nan Lu, 500m south of Dashi Kou. If you
plan on
leaving Zhenjiang by bus, there are
frequent minibuses to Nanjing from the train
station square, and from the Jiefang Nan Lu bus
station there are buses to Nanjing, Huai'an,
Yangzhou and Lianyungang. All buses to points
north (Huai'an, Yangzhou and Lianyungang) cross a
brand new bridge that's become a cornerstone in
Jiangsu's massive transportation development
plans. The bridge is the Yangtze's third river
crossing (after the Nanjing Daqiao, built in the
1960s), and is soon to be followed by two more
bridges, one near Nanjing and one connecting
Shanghai with the northern bank of the Yangtze.
Most facilities are in the Dashi Kou area,
including the Bank of China (Mon-Fri
8-11.30am & 1.30-4pm), just to the east on
Zhongshan Lu, and the post office
immediately to the north on Jiefang Bei Lu. CITS (tel
0511/5231806) is at the corner of Zhongshan Dong
Lu and Jiankang Lu, quite near the Jingkou
Hotel.
