The Yantai cuisine belongs to the Eastern Shandong cuisine, which is most famous for its abundance of sea food. Rare sea products, such as sea cucumber, sleeve-fish, crab, trumpet shell and abalone are common dishes here. Yantai cuisine is characterized by frying and braising, and preserving the original flavor. Famous dishes are braised abalone with shells (Payuanke baoyu) and fried sea cucumber with onion (Congshao haishen). Fushan noodles are another local special food - they are especially thin and tender. Decent dishes at cheap prices can be found in some small restaurants in the vicinity of the railway station.
